A Ray Ban surgiu para criar oculos de sol de aviação que reduzissem o desconforto dos intensos tons de azul nos pilotos do exercito americano. Teve origem graças a um Coronel dos EUA, que aliado à Bausch & Lomb criou o primeiro prototipo, conhecido como ”Anti-Glare” (Anti-Brilho). Em 1939, os óculos de sol foram redesenhados com uma armação de metal e patenteados como Ray-Ban Aviator. A marca tornou-se famosa através dos seus modelos Wayfarer e Aviator, que se mantêm atuais até hoje. Em 1999, a Ray-Ban foi adquirida pelo grupo ótico italiano Luxottica.
